Setting Up the Worklouder Creator Micro

I’m on my little buddy arc.

I recently got the Figma Creator Micro from Worklouder and in the process of trying to set it up, I am coming across so much content — I need to organize it.

This is for me, if you benefit that’s great.

Choosing the Layout

After unbagging all of the keycaps, I started to try to figure out which shortcuts I wanted to add to my keyboard. I saw some people using Figjam to choose their layout, so I went there. Laying out your desired interactions in a tool like Figjam while swapping keys on your micro will make it much clearer what experience you are creating.

This is what I’m going with for now…

The left side lets me tap my commonly used Figma tools, the right side lets me Cut/Copy/Paste/Delete easily which I use in Figma and in other applications.

The bottom two keys let me move items back and forth in space within Figma. And of course we’ve got Raycast on the top.

I assigned color control to one of the scrollers and the two embedded buttons. I left the top right knob as undo/redo which makes it easy to move between changes in Figma and Figjam.

Mapping Shortcuts

The Via software is very straightforward. Choose keys to remap and set up the command needed. I ended up needing to use the QMK keycodes instead of the built in Copy/Paste options.

You can find the keyboard shortcuts for various tools in Figma (and Figjam) by clicking the Question Mark in the bottom left of the app.

Layers

The smilely face lets you click through the different layers in the keyboard.

You can determine which layer you are setting up in Via in the top left of the app.

Wait what are layers?

Specialized input devices often allow the user to control multiple sets of inputs. For example, this Xbox controller has 3 layers. Each layer can be set up to be specific to a certain game. A user may want a different set of controls for Fortnite and Warzone.

I may add layers later, I need to get the first layer established.

Crazy Colors

Instead of focusing on layers, I made the colors a primary interaction aspect on layer 0.

I set the top left scroll to cycle through the different RGB modes for the rim and clicking it turns off the backlight. The Figma button turns on the backlight in the behind the keys and the Smiley Face changes the keyboard backlight modes.

Takeaways

This process was easier than I expected! I started this log to make sure I could track everything but it may have been overkill.

The keyboard is awesome and I’m already starting to use it in my interactions with Figma, Figjam, and other apps.

I expect to add some more layers or adjust my layout in the future, and I know that the process will be straightforward then.

And yeah, it’s clicky.
